Race Report: GACX - Race 2 Grant Park

Grant Park is our, as for most racers and spectators, favorite race of the year. It's the only race that happens inside the city and always draws a huge crowd out! We set up our tent alongside our sponsors Loose Nuts Cycles and The Spindle bright and early Sunday morning atop heckle hill.

The day was a hot and dusty power course. Unlike the course at Elk's the week before, Grant Park relied heavily on cornering, shouldering, and off cambering skills to get the job done! And was almost entirely in the sun.

At 10am, Anastasia, Becky, Clara, Hannah, Ally, and Karli lined up for a MASSIVE Women's 4/5 race. 20+ competitors took off around the course for their 30 minute race. Hannah and Anastasia were both among the leaders group, just outside of the podium range. The group very quickly spread out and it was difficult for the competitors to know exactly where they were placed in the field, especially as they got mixed up in the Men's 5 field that was racing on the course at the same time.

On lap 3, most of the field began settling into the positions they had gained and most competitors were out in no man's land racing only with themselves. Clara & Ally kept a great back and forth competition with other riders to maintain their top 10 positions.

In the end, it was almost a GRITS podium takeover with Hannah placing 2nd and Anastasia close behind in 3rd.

Hand ups were essential and plentiful on heckle hill as a barrier forced riders into dismounting their bikes & running up what felt like the steepest hill imaginable.
